A big thank you to Brett Piva of Pocket Design who generously worked with us this year to provide a unique mentoring opportunity for our students.
We were very proud to be Gold Sponsors of this year's MAKEit MADEit design conference, an initiate of Pocket Design. This fantastic annual Newcastle event invites artists and creative industry professionals to share their stories and key insights into their unique practice and processes.
Brett was able to collaborate with us in the running of a MAKEit MADEit Branding Project for our Advanced Design Skills students. The process involved a real-life client briefing, whereby the class was given the opportunity to conceive and design marketing material utilising a professional branding style guide. The students then gained valuable experience through presenting their concepts, receiving feedback, and fine-tuning their designs for portfolio pieces.
We also encouraged students to involve themselves directly with the conference by volunteering as part of the event crew. This was a fantastic way to network with the invited speakers and attendees (and get free tickets!).
At the end of the project, student Kayla Tesoriero was awarded an internship at Pocket Design – an invaluable learning opportunity to work with Brett. Kayla was chosen based on the creativity of her project design pitch, including the way in which she had applied the client branding guidelines to her own ideas. Congratulations Kayla!
